just arrived today from my short getaway! phuket 4 days, 3 nights
im well known to have fair skin my entire life and usually not concerned about getting myself a tan. however, this time i was all so excited about visiting the beaches there. Patong beach - the most famous and affected my the tsunami. We stayed over at kata beach though which is actually rather far from the town area. one has to travel up and down the mountaineous roads to get there hahaha.
Like a quick recap for me and to all who wish to know
Day 1
arrived at phuket in the morning around 10ish took a limo down to the hotel and the journey was about 1 hr or more. darn far...checked in, walked out to the streets and bought my first item. bargained for a sun dress tog. wif tmm. the lady quoted a price of Thb 650 per dress initially. then i bargained for Thb 400 for 2! hahaha and was ready to 'walk' away if she didnt want to sell it at my desired price. tata! the art of bargaining ~ so auntie cum singaporean.
in the mean time, jason was next door all set to rent a car for the day!
pic of the petrol station! its actually a hut and home made gasoline haaha
wahahah
we had the privilige of being driven around in the honda jazz, zooming arnd the patong town looking for a shopping centre called jungceylon. tmm was ill, so we slowed down everything.
i ate the dairy queen blizzard ice cream for like a dollar plus, a lot cheaper compared to spore's price which is arnd 2.5 times more exp.
initially i was quite amused by the fact that the security guards or policemen positioned at every entrance of the shopping centre saluted to us coz we were foreigners. hahaha
other than that, we spent half the afternoon till evening in the hotel room coz tmm had to rest her bloated stomach. for dinner, we drove up all the way to phuket town, which was an hour plus drive, a slight delay coz we were lost. had ramen that tasted exactly like maggie mee in a jap casual rest. hahaa but well, i found a jim thompson store!! its a famous thai brand that sells auntie looking tee shirts, silk items such as cushion covers and bags etc.
Day 2
drove up back to jungceylon for its carrefour and lunch there. HAHA i bet u gals know why ~~ stock up sanitary pads. u've got to be there to really know why and get into that experience of why tmm stocks up the pads from thailand. pocky biscuits were also half spore's price.
in the afternoon, upon returning the car, we went back to the hotel for a change of clothes. to the beach! yipee!
sun tan by lying lazily on the chairs under the umbrella and playing in the water for abit. haha
then back to the swimming pool at the hotel for a dip.
dinner was at a thai restaurant somewhere ulu. haha food critics say the food isnt fantastic!
after dinner we headed back to our resort area and settled for coffee and cake.after that, i was still game on hunting for my thai desert but found none around. tmm n jason found this fruit stall though! imagine, since that taiwan incident of NT$390 for some pathetic fruits, i bargained for this mango. the lady quoted THB 50 for a mango weighing half kilo. I asked for THB 40 but was unwilling to give. She went ahead to cut the mango and wrap it in cling wrap still. . jason bought a pack of fruit too so we tried to bargain for it tog. hahaha! she was unhappy about the THB10 discount but still gave it to us in the end. she just showed a very black face and mumbled sth.... HAHA
Day 3
i woke up early this morning in excitement as we had planned to go down to patong beach by the local bus. the two sleepy heads couldnt get themselves out of bed till 930 when i went up to check on them. hahaa
the bus ride took us like 2 hours! to reach patong beach as we had to change a bus at phuket town itself. on the way, we were really amazed at how the bus started filling up with locals.. they could even cling on to the back of the bus or sit at the end coz the bus was packed. its a gd way to do some sightseeing also!
upon reaching patong beach, tmm and i initially had decided to take our beach towels, lay them on the sand to sun tan.. like directly under the sun for quick results! but we saw no one doing it there. everyone else was on pool chairs with umbrellas. for rent at THB 100 per day.
the funny thing was how the rental guy planted and adjusted the umbrella for us.
